not in MY hood!
so i work at an elementary school. it's in my hood. my hood consists of vancouver general hospital, a couple churches, a few elementary schools, a few synagogues, corner stores, a couple parks and little businesses here and there... as well as the many houses, multiplexes, townhouses, apartements and condos. so it's basically an awesome place to live and grow up in. i mean, friends ask me when i'll move out of my house into my own little condo or something and i just tell them that i'd rather stay here, and wait til my parents move out. it's that good.
but there's always someone out there who wants to rain on your parade. who's big idea is it to be a crazy sicko and freak out kids at my elementary school during recess?! last week, a man driving around in a van decided it'd be a great idea to circle my elementary school and talk to the 6th graders doing crosswalk duty. my school is fenced up, and the only time designated kids are allowed out of that area is when they do the "kindergarten walk" / crosswalk duty at the main entrance of the school for 40 minutes during the lunch recess. they have complete access to run into the school whenever there's trouble (of which there was never any til last week), but the two 6th graders were so scared they couldn't even move. it's horrible to think that no matter how much you try and teach kids how to act in a situation like that, all that important information can so easily fly out the window. we haven't spotted this guy since, and i hope he isn't stalking any of the other elementary schools around the area. it just kills me to think that someone can get their jollies by being like that. kids are already having a way tougher time growing up than i (and anyone born up til the early 80s) ever did, so why would anyone want to make it even harder on them? kids are different now, but they're still kids. they deserve to have every chance a kid can get to grow up in a safe, healthy and nurturing environment. damn you sickos out there... just cuz you might have some issues, talk to a shrink! stay away from my (and everyone else's) kids!
